In addition to its various publications and ad-hoc events, GPoT Center also conducts several longer term projects that address current, pressing issues in international relations and Turkish foreign policy with its partners from across the globe.

The Heybeliada Talks: Series of Second Track Diplomacy Meetings on Cyprus

Since its establishment, GPoT Center has been at the forefront in Turkey in terms of keeping the Cyprus issue relevant. We have been regularly bringing together opinion leaders from North and South Cyprus, as well as Greece and Turkey, under the banner of the “Heybeliada Talks”, to discuss issues pertaining to the solution of the Cyprus question.

Support to Turkey – Armenia Rapprochement (SATR)

The project aims to support Armenia-Turkey rapprochement through developing of new business partnerships and regional professional networks, engaging civil society in alliance-building to further contribute to Armenia-Turkey normalization, and establishing a favorable environment for state-to-state dialogue and interaction.

Book Project: A Social History of Everret House, Washington, D.C.

The story of the Everett House - the former site of the Turkish Embassy in Washington, D.C. and the current residence of the Turkish Ambassador - portrays a unique aspect of Turkish-American relations that has been rarely highlighted. Few know the constructive role that the Turkish Embassy and the Turkish Ambassador played during the years of racial segregation in the United States.

Previous Projects

Program in Dialogue-Building between Turkey and Armenia

The goal of the project is to deepen popular commitment for accord between Turkey and Armenia by expanding the quality, reach and diversity of balanced, socially relevant commercial media content on common cultural, economic and political issues. The project achieves its goals through the following three objectives: increasing the production of multi-sourced media content; increasing information collection and dissemination of media content; and developing opportunities for emerging media professionals.

Towards Trust Building: Reconciliation through a Common Purpose in Cyprus

GPoT Center in collaboration with Turkish Economic and Social Studies Foundation (TESEV) and Turkish Cypriots Human Rights Foundation (TCHRF) jointly implemented a research project sponsored by the European Commission under the special action “Reconciliation, Confidence Building Measures and Support to Civil Society” in Cyprus.

Days Two and Three in Armenia-Turkey Rapprochement

This project contributed to confidence-building between the Armenian and Turkish societies by promoting transparency in the process of Armenian-Turkish rapprochement. The project was designed to make the implementation of the bilateral Protocols visible and understandable to wider circles in the Armenian and Turkish societies via a series of round-table expert discussions and media coverage in both countries.

Mutual Bias and Objectivity in the Media of Armenia and Turkey

Eurasia Partnership Foundation in Armenia (EPF) in partnership with the Global Political Trends Center (GPoT) conducted an assessment of the accuracy and bias in Turkish and Armenian print media when covering Turkish-Armenian relations. The proposed research was conducted within the framework of the "Reducing Media Bias in Armenia and Turkey" program supported by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

Towards a Better Life: How to Improve the State of Democracy in the Middle East and North Africa

This initiative was designed to critically evaluate the state of democracy in the Middle East and North Africa, and came up with policy proposals on how to improve it. This project identified six pillars of a working and viable democracy - the judiciary, constitutional framework, parliamentary elections, political parties, civil society, and the media - and aimed to identify and propose solutions to the problems faced in all six areas in different countries in the Middle East and North Africa.
